Summary of "Once Upon a Time”
In Nadine Gordimer’s short story called, “Once Upon a Time,” there’s a risk in being too secure. The author writes a story because she hears a noise that sounds like someone broke into her house. She was terrified and she couldn’t sleep. In the story, she imagines riots right outside of the city’s walls. The author introduces a mom, a dad, and their little boy. As the story continues, crime escalates and the family put in security system. The parents put up a wall topped with razor wire. In the end, their boy tries to play with the wire and gets tangled in it.

Summary of “ Night Calls”
The short story” Night Calls,” written by Lisa Fugard, examines the relationship between a parent and child. After her mother dies, the narrator is sent to boarding school. Her father almost leaves their home because then, he is put in change of rare heron, which changes everything. The father and daughter’s relationship improves. One night, the bird escapes and eventually they can’t hear the heron’s calls anymore. The daughter finds the bird, dead. The dad becomes sad again so the daughter makes the bird call to give the dad hope.

Kimberly M. Blaeser’s essay, “Rituals of Memory “, argues that we always come back to our roots. Blaeser begins her essay with a metaphor that shows readers her opinion about how relationships to family and community work. She uses her memories of the Legionaries as evidence for her claim. Next, she talks about her double life, composed of Catholic School and her private, Native American Education, defining who she is. Blaeser ends by making the point that all of our stories and memories make us who we are.

- I learned how to revise my essay so it looks better. This is going to help my other papers look better because now I know what to add and what I shouldn’t add.

- I need to work on adding more details so I took the complements and went back to add them and make my story better.

- In the first sentence of my summary I used the author, title, genre, big idea. After that I went in and checked the chronological order in my main points. I also made sure not to add any opinions in my summary.
4. Given more time to work on this assignment, how would you improve it?
- I would take that extra time and work on my grammar make sure there’s no mistakes and add more details and make it more longer to add more meaning too it.
5. What is one thing you’re proud of in this paper?
- Something I would be proud of is knowing that I have improved and now I can write better summaries in the future.
