The Scary Ride
Before I knew it, I was buckled into the rollercoaster’s seat and there was no turning back. I was screaming my head off. It felt like I was going to pass out. To the side of me, my cousins were screaming, laughing, and having a good time. I screamed.
I woke up to my phone ringing right in my ear. Quickly, I answered, and I heard my cousin’s voice.
“Hey!” said my cousin, Natalia.
“Yeah?” I responded.
“They’re opening the fair today, and we should totally go!”
“Okay. Sounds good to me. Is Mariana coming too?”
“Yes! It is the three of us.”
“Okay! Pick me up by 7:00p.m.”
“Okay see you then.”
Before I knew it, it was 7: 00p.m. My cousins had arrived. We left my house at 7:20 and arrived at the fair at 8:15. When we got there, I could see a tall ride called Speed. I thought I am so not getting on that ride. As we were walking in, I could smell caramel popcorn, funnel cakes, corn dogs, and all that yummy stuff. Not only that, I could hear people screaming their heads off on the rides.
We got on my favorite rides first and ate funnel cakes. After eating, we walked around to see what ride we were going to get on next. When we stopped in front of the ride Speed, I hoped we wouldn’t get on. The ride I saw when we got here, gave me the shivers just from looking at it. I prayed they wouldn’t want to get on, but sure enough, they decided to ride it.
“Let’s get on Speed,” said my cousins at the same time.
“Umm,” I told them in a scared voice.
My heart rate started to increase. I could feel shivers crawl up my spin. I didn’t want to get on the ride, but I also didn’t want to seem like a chicken and tell them no. So, I did what I didn’t want to do, and I got on.
Before I was ready, I was on the ride, and there was no turning back. I didn’t want to look over at my cousins because I could feel my face start to flush. The palms of my hands began to get sweaty. Before I knew it, I was upside down, high up. I closed my eyes to prevent myself from seeing how high I was. I screamed at the top of my lungs, and the ride started to go faster and faster. Then, it went slower and slower and stopped.
When I got off, my hands were still shaking from the ride my throat was scratchy from all the screaming. I realized it wasn’t so bad after all, but I learned one thing. Scary rides aren’t my thing.

Personal Narrative Reflection
2. What qualifies this paper as a narrative? What are the requirements for this genre and how did you meet them?
3. What is one part of your story that you think turned out really well? What do you like about that part?
- Explain the process you went through to write this paper. Please be specific.
- The process I went through was that first I had to think of an experience I went through. Then I had to do an outline. I also had to type a two-page paper with dialogue, imagery, and show don’t tell.
2. What qualifies this paper as a narrative? What are the requirements for this genre and how did you meet them?
- Things that qualify this paper as a narrative is using imagery, dialogue, and sow don’t tell. Also telling a story instead of explaining it.
3. What is one part of your story that you think turned out really well? What do you like about that part?
- One part that I think turned out really well would probably be when I was getting on the ride because I liked how I described how scared I was.
